THREE peo­ple have died and three more in­jured after winds of up to 108mph and heavy rain bat­tered the UK yes­ter­day.

One woman died after a tree was up­rooted op­po­site Kens­ing­ton Bar­racks in cen­tral London dur­ing high winds from the rem­nants of Hur­ri­cane Gon­zalo.

Else­where a man was crushed to death un­der­neath a van in Can­vey, Es­sex, after a van fell on top of him.

The vic­tim, in his 30s, was un­der­neath the van re­pair­ing it when a strong gust of wind caused it to fall off a car jack.

Another man, aged 63, was killed after his car hit a bridge near Mersey­side, Liver­pool, as the area ex­pe­ri­enced gusts of up to 35mph.
