Bhangra star jailed over taxi attack

A CHART-TOPPING Indian Bhangra singer has been jailed after sexually assaulting a woman in a taxi – hours before he was due to fly to Bombay to shoot a music video.

Dhanraj Singh, 24, who worked part-time as a taxi driver while pursuing his pop career, groped the woman and tried to kiss her while giving her a lift home.

The dad-of-two attacked the victim after she got in the back of his cab following a night out in Nottingham on April 1.

Singh, of West Bridgford, Nottingham, was jailed for nine months after he was found guilty of sexual assault at the city’s Crown Court.

Judge Gregory Dickinson said: “You are a talented, award-winning musician. You have put all of that in jeopardy. You were responsibl­e for her safety and well-being.

“You took advantage of a lone female passenger who had been drinking. The effect on the victim has been very serious.”

The court was told that the woman had made a statement saying she was “still raw” and was having ongoing counsellin­g.

She had lost weight as a result of the attack which had also affected her studies and left her feeling “vulnerable”.
