Manchester United have been linked with an amazing £90million move to sign their old boy back from Real Madrid.

And that would make Rooney one happy man.

The England captain says Ronaldo is by far the best player he has ever played with. And he revealed a dressing room secret in that the Portuguese ace was known as “the pitbull” at Old Trafford because of his strength.

He would love United to get Ronaldo back and it could happen next summer.

Rooney said: “Cristiano was a fantastic team player and he scored goals.

“He helped me a lot when I played in the same team.

“I miss him to play with. In the future, nobody knows, maybe we will play together again one day.”

And Rooney has put his side of the story about the supposed transfer request two years ago — saying it NEVER happened.

There’s no doubt that relations with Sir Alex Ferguson became strained when he was dropped from the team.

The United captain says he spoke to Sir Alex about it but things never went any further than that.

Rooney said: “I went to see him and just said if you are not going to play me it might be better if I were to move on then.

“Then it was all over the press I had put transfer request in, which I never did.

“I don’t know why it came out that way.”
