Tesco pay rise for its workers
TESCO has agreed a pay increase of up to 3.1 per cent for its UK store staff.
The deal will affect 230,000 of the supermarket giant’s 320,000 UK employees, taking the hourly rate of its shop workers to £7.62.
The move comes ahead of the April introduction of the Government’s national living wage, which will lift minimum hourly pay to £7.20 for over-25s, from its current level of £6.50, and to at least £9 an hour by 2020.
Tesco said its pay increase – which comes into effect on July 3 – will apply to all workers regardless of age who have worked at the business for more than nine months.
