Bake Off Sue: Mary Berry fed me Shergar

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

GREAT British Bake Off judge Mary Berry fed host Sue Perkins a HORSE MEAT steak when they first met.

The pair worked together on a show called The Supersizers in 2009, which Perkins presented with Giles Coren, when Mary took part in an episode set in the 1950s.

Mary, 81, introduced Sue to post-war rations, including canned salmon and horse meat.

Perkins, 46, said: “Mary made me a horse meat and margarine steak. It was literally a Shergar steak. It wasn’t tenderised.

“It was the thick hip of a horse.

“She was out there carving it for what seemed like two days.

“It had a burned, gristly side and a bit of hair on it!”

Mary has also been revealed as a fan of The Jeremy Kyle Show, where guests come on to argue with each other over ongoing family issues.

Perkins’s Bake Off co-host Mel Giedroyc, 48, explained: “We introduced Mary to Jeremy Kyle and she rather enjoyed it.

“Mary does love Jezza now. I think she thinks Jeremy Kyle the show is a drama though, rather than real life.”
