A PENSIONER who sparked a 40-hour siege has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and possession of a firearm.

Police were called to a house in West Sussex on Sunday afternoon with reports the 72-year-old man had a gun and was making threats.

Armed cops surrounded the property in Pagham after he allegedly refused to leave the property.

At 8.42am yesterday he left the home and was arrested shortly after.

Acting Asst Ch Con Steve Whitton thanked residents for their patience after officers cordoned off the property and closed the road in the quiet seafront village.

He added: “This was a long, complex and challenging negotiation, but I am delighted to say that it has ended peacefully and safely.”
