OAP nicked af­ter 40-hr ‘gun’ siege

A PEN­SIONER who sparked a 40-hour siege has been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of mak­ing threats to kill and pos­ses­sion of a firearm.

Po­lice were called to a house in West Sus­sex on Sun­day af­ter­noon with re­ports the 72-year-old man had a gun and was mak­ing threats.

Armed cops sur­rounded the property in Pagham af­ter he al­legedly re­fused to leave the property.

At 8.42am yes­ter­day he left the home and was ar­rested shortly af­ter.

Act­ing Asst Ch Con Steve Whit­ton thanked res­i­dents for their pa­tience af­ter of­fi­cers cor­doned off the property and closed the road in the quiet seafront vil­lage.

He added: “This was a long, com­plex and chal­leng­ing ne­go­ti­a­tion, but I am de­lighted to say that it has ended peace­fully and safely.”
