Shark attack surfer escapes jaws of death
A NEWLYWED surfer says he’s grateful to be alive after fighting off a shark – even though the violent attack has forced him to postpone his honeymoon.
Federico Jaime, 36 ( above), was surfing at Hookipa Beach, Hawaii, when he felt a shark chomp down on his left arm.
He said: “It just came out of nowhere. I saw the shark right in my face. It grabbed my left arm. It was really violent.
“I could see my arm was pretty much destroyed. I hit the shark with my hands and my legs. I don’t know what I did.”
Then he felt something pull on his left leg – at the time, he didn’t realise the reef shark had bit him a SECOND time.
Federico, who was supposed to leave for a Tahiti honeymoon this week, started screaming and nearby surfers helped get him to shore – using a surfboard leash as a tourniquet.
He is now recovering in a Maui hospital. MORE than 98 per cent of British homes have carpets, but in Italy, only two per cent do.
