Hatton Garden raid blockbuster star Larry visits notorious vault

-

ACTOR Larry Lamb, who plays the leading role in a new blockbuster film about the Hatton Garden jewellery heist, has visited the scene ahead of the movie’s release.

The former EastEnders star met with former Metropolitan Police commander Peter Spindler – who worked on trapping the gang – at the location, as well as the Museum of London’s curator, Jackie Keily.

The star-studded British blockbuster movie about the audacious burglary The Hatton Garden Job is due for release in April next year.

The British capital’s jewellery quarter was at the centre of the high-profile heist over the Easter weekend in 2015 as a gang of career criminals stole valuables worth up to £14million.

The gang carried out the meticulously-planned crime, ransacking 73 boxes in the safe deposit area after using a drill to bore a huge hole in the vault wall.

Lamb, 69, is playing the role of the group’s ringleader Brian Reader, 77, who recently failed to win a cut to his six-year prison sentence.

The film’s cast also includes Quadrophenia’s Phil Daniels, Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode, Nip/Tuck actress Joely Richardson, Game Of Thrones’ Clive Russell and True Blood actor Stephen Moyer.

Dubbed ‘ Dad’s Army’ because of their age, Reader and rest of the notorious gang stole a fortune in goods from boxes which contained gold, diamonds and sapphires.

Now the whole vault is to be relocated to the Museum of London to be a permanent exhibit, a logistical exercise that could take six years.

The scheme is the brainchild of the vault’s millionaire owner David Pearl, who is friends with Gavin & Stacey star Larry.

The plan would not only see the deposit boxes ransacked by the gang donated to the museum, but also the wall they drilled through and the heavy iron door that was supposed to keep the vault secure.

Ms Keily said: “It’s still in the early stages but we’re keen to acquire as much as we can.

“We have been offered the vault for the collection and it’s a very exciting opportunity.

‘The Hatton Garden robbery really caught the imagination of the public. It’s a London story and it’s immensely interesting how it was solved.

“It was a combination of the insight into the fact and the fiction, with the reality and the upcoming film.

“It was amazing being down there just 18 months after it happened.

“Larry is friends with David so had visited the vault before and he seemed very excited about the film.”

Filming for The Hatton Garden Job took place in and around London. The script follows how “the bad grandpas” and the “Enfield Expendables” were recruited by an ex-con.

They were caught after being spotted on CCTV and having phone calls traced. CRIME WATCH: Larry plays Reader ( LOOTED: Scene of the real crime
