UNI PAYS TO FILM STUDENTS BONKING IN CARS

Safe-sex vid plan ‘will be very tasteful’

A UNIVERSITY has come under fire after it offered to pay young couples to be filmed having sex.

Coventry University is looking to pay £400 to three couples aged between 18 and 25 to have sex on camera in order to promote the message that using a condom does not kill the mood.

They will be filmed having it off in “natural settings”, including the students’ accommodation and a car, while the film will be “tastefully shot”, according to academics behind the project.

The move is part of the Chance2Change project at the university, and is financially supported by the government-funded Medical Research Council.

Chris McGovern, of the Campaign for Real Education, said: “All education institutions are expected to look after the sexual welfare of their students but I struggle to understand why Coventry University feels the need to delve into territory like this.

“The internet is awash with sex films which could be used to preach its message, without paying couples to film pornographic videos of their own.”

Margaret Morrissey, chairman of the Parents Outloud group, said students who sign up to appear in the videos risked “jeopardising” their future careers.

“They are offending the intelligence of their students by thinking they need educational videos such as this,” she said.

Erotic

“With the nature of the internet, these videos could stay in circulation for years.

“Any students taking part in them could jeopardise their future employment prospects.”

The Chance2Change project aims to reduce the number of STIs affecting young people, saying the estimated annual cost to the NHS of STI treatment is more than £600 million.

Dr Katie Newby, the project’s lead, said the aim of the videos was to show that sex can still be erotic even when stopping to put on a condom.

She said the films will feature “real couples in loving, consensual relationships and be tastefully shot,” while there will be other clips available which show people talking about condoms in a way “which increases pleasure”.

Dr Newby added that the film is part of the Wrapped initiative, which will feature other offers like chlamidya self-testing kits and headphones with a secret pocket to store condoms.

“We are hoping that the work will ultimately reduce the incidence of sexually- transmitted infections amongst young people through increasing their use of condoms,” she said.
