‘Colonel Gaddafi’ caged for biting off man’s ear

-

SAVAGE: Geraint Jones A FORMER soldier who went out for Halloween dressed up as Colonel Gaddafi and then bit part of a man’s ear off in a “savage” attack has been jailed for 16 months.

History and politics student Geraint Jones became upset after being shoved and pushed at the bar of an Aberystwyth pub during a boozy night out, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The 25-year-old had dressed up with friends for a “bad taste” pub crawl and was in the Academy bar when, the judge said, he “purposefully” returned to the bar to exact his “revenge” on the man he believed responsible for the pushing and shoving.

Using his teeth while dressed as the Libyan dictator on October 31, 2015, Jones bit Gwynant Jones’s ear, resulting in part of it being severed.

The court was told the man’s ear lobe was found on the floor by a barman, but it could not be reattached.

Judge Geraint Walters said: “You now accept that in your state of drunkenness that you misidentified that man.

“The man that you chose as your victim was wholly innocent of any wrongdoing. In drink, you then decided to bite your victim’s ear. That is the most savage use of force.”

The court heard Jones, who served four years in the Army, including a tour of Afghanistan, pleaded guilty to inflicting GBH on Gwynant Jones, 25, but denied the more serious charge of causing GBH with intent and was found not guilty of that offence by a jury last month.

His defence said Jones was: “...deeply ashamed and remorseful.” VICTIM: Innocent Gwynant Jones
