LEO SAYER: I WAS SCREWED BY SAVILE! (...but not THAT way)

-

SEVENTIES singer Leo Sayer is furious his first appearance can’t be shown on telly – because of übernonce Jimmy Savile.

The 68-year-old hitmaker made his debut on the BBC charts show back in 1973 but his performance is tinged by its host – and serial sex offender – Savile.

Leo sang The Show Must Go On while dressed as a clown on the programme but his debut can no longer be aired.

Hundreds of allegations of sexual abuse were made against Savile after his death in 2011, leading the police to believe he had been a predatory sex offender.

Talking of his TotP appearance, Leo said: “Jimmy Savile introduced me. Then f**king Savile jumps on – halfway through the song – and starts clowning around, so that appearance can never be shown on TV.”

Despite the high NOT CLOWNING AROUND: Leo ( and Jimmy ( number of offences Savile committed, Leo reckons the BBC get a lot of the flak.

He added: “I think we all knew it was a seedy culture, but it was much more rampant in politics.

“I don’t see why the BBC gets all the blame. Terrible things went on at that time. We’ve learnt about the police and the Catholic Church, great wrongdoings and cover-ups.

“And when they write about these times, what will they find? Now that politicians have learnt to lie professionally, there may be even more.”

Brit-born singer Leo enjoyed a successful career in the 1970s and 80s and attempted to propel himself back into the spotlight by going in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2007.

But his stay was short-lived when he left after an expletive-laden rant when show bosses refused to give him a clean pair of pants.

Now an Australian citizen, Leo is currently on tour in the UK.
