ONE of the production crew on hit Netflix series has been shot DEAD in Mexico while working on the show.

Carlos Munoz Portal, 37, was found dead in his car in a remote area while scoping out locations for the fourth series of the crime drama.

An unnamed friend of the location scout said he saw his friend last week before he headed to Mexico.

Hours later, his body was found peppered with multiple bullet wounds as he sat in his vehicle on a dirt road just outside Mexico City.

Netflix confirmed Portal’s death and said there were no witnesses to the brutal murder.

Narcos is a gritty drama which documents the drug cartels of the 1980s and their ongoing battles with law enforcement.

The first three series of the hit show focused on infamous kingpin Pablo Escobar and then the Cali Cartel in Colombia.

However, the fourth series of the show was widely thought to be turning its focus toward Mexico and their drug cartels.

Mexico is in the midst of its deadliest year on record, as the country has seen more than 2,200 murders in June alone – the highest murder rate for 20 years.

Portal previously worked on films including Man On Fire, Apocalypto and the James Bond movie Spectre. CRIME DRAMA: Netflix series
