MAN ‘KILLED REFUGEE AND CUT OFF HIS PENIS’

A MAN murdered a refugee and cut off his penis after claiming he was a rapist and terrorist, a court heard.

Jeffrey Barry, 56, attacked his neighbour Kamil Ahmed at his flat in Bristol at about 2am on July 6 last year, the city’s crown court heard.

The court was told Mr Ahmed, a Kurdish refugee from Iraq, died following a “savage and sustained” knife attack.

Paranoid schizophrenic Barry was racist towards Mr Ahmed and had previously assaulted him.

In a phone call to police weeks before the killing, Barry claimed Mr Ahmed was a rapist, a paedo and a terrorist in Iraq.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Ahmed had been repeatedly stabbed, including 25 times to his face and eyes, during Barry’s attack. His penis had been “cut off at the root”.

Barry, who has long-standing mental health problems, denies murder but admits manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

He had lived at the Wells Road property, a multi-occupancy house for adults requiring support, for five years.

On May 24 last year, he told support workers he wanted to be notorious and murder a member of the public, allegedly adding: “Kamil would be top of my list”.

Barry had been discharged from hospital less than 12 hours before he killed Mr Ahmed.

His case was reviewed by a mental health tribunal, who released him with medication after he promised not to drink or take drugs, which he did.
