MAN,29, HELD OVER RAHEEM ‘RACIST ABUSE’

A MAN is under arrest for an alleged racist attack on Manchester City and England footballer Raheem Sterling.

Sterling, 23, was reportedly kicked and branded a ‘n*****’ as he arrived at City’s Etihad training complex ahead of last Saturday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, which City won 4-1.

According to reports Sterling is said to have pulled into the entrance of the car park at which point he was confronted by a man hurling abuse.

He apparently then got out of his car to ask what the problem was, only to be kicked.

Police said yesterday that a man aged 29 had been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. He is in police custody for questionin­g over the alleged hate crime. allegedly

Det Ch Insp Paul Walker from Greater Manchester Police said: “Earlier, we arrested a 29-year-old man after investigat­ing a racially aggravated assault in Manchester.

“Racism will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and has no place in civilised society.

“We take every report incredibly seriously and any reports can be reported via the True Vision website www. report-it.org.uk.”

Kick It Out, football’s equality body, said it had been in touch with Sterling to offer him support.
