Another witness, who asked not to be named, said: “It was awful. The water turned red from the pastor’s blood and it looked like it was boiling because of the crocodile thrashing about.”

Despite huge efforts, fishermen and residents could not save Docho, local policeman Eiwnetu Kanko said.

They used fishing nets to prevent the crocodile from taking the pastor’s body further into the lake.

The croc escaped.
