ITV are certainly cashing in on beauty Dani Dyer’s emotional meltdown on Sunday night.

Not only did the episode create a spike in ratings but it also generated a huge number of complaints from viewers.

More than 2,500 people called telly watchdog Ofcom to express their disapproval of how Dani was set up.

In the show Dani, 22, was shown a misleading clip of boyfriend Jack Fincham, 26.

The couple were in separate villas after the boys and girls were split up in a controversial plot twist.

Dani was shown a video of Jack watching his ex-partner, Ellie Jones, walk into the new villa, sending girlfriend Dani into floods of tears. Love Island By BECCA STUBBS becca@sundaysport.co.uk

Viewers were left enraged over Dani’s tears after ITV2 failed to show her that her fella Jack had in fact stayed loyal to her while staying in Casa Amor and even told pals he “loved” Dani. Horror

They watched in horror as she thought her romance was over and sobbed to the camera: “It always happens to me. As soon as I’m happy with someone, something happens to me. It’s like I’m not allowed to be happy.

“Imagine it’s some girl that he’s been recently seeing, he clearly has feelings if he was seeing her and now she’s in here.”

But following the publicity generated by the controversy, Monday night’s broadcast – in which the truth came out and the pair were re-united – became the most-watched ITV2 show EVER.

The dramatic episode saw an audience share of 17.4% and peaked at four million viewers.
