Disney robots flippin’ great
BOFFINS at Disney have developed a robotic stuntman that can perform flips and somersaults 60ft in the air.
Video clips show the humanoid being slung up into the sky, performing flips or soaring with its chest puffed out like a Marvel movie character.
It is part of a project called Stuntronics – to develop an acrobatic robot that could be drafted in for shows and attractions at Disney’s theme parks.
It is not yet threatening to show up at casting calls in Los Angeles, but for stuntmen and women – usually good at managing their fear – the sight was “worrying”.
One said: “This is a worrying develpment for the stunt community.
“I can understand robots taking over the role of actors as most of them are pretty wooden, but doing out job? That’s a real bummer.”
