A DIGITAL marketing specialist admitted installing a hidden camera in a toilet at a Starbucks coffee shop to film young women WEEING.

Clarence Tang Jia Ming, 26, pleaded guilty to 31 charges of filming women at a Starbucks in the Holland Village shopping area of the island city state of Singapore.

He placed the camera in such a way so as to see the women’s faces and private parts.

Tang was the last member of an online voyeuristic video group, called the SG Horizon Club, to appear in court in connection with the secret filming of the women.

Tang, who has still to be sentenced, chose the Starbucks because of “the high number of females aged between 18 and 25 likely to use toilets”, the court heard.

He installed a hidden camera, shaped like a metal hook, in the toilet at the coffee shop.

He also installed a similar camera disguised as a wall hook in his own bathroom and recorded a video of a 22-year-old female friend taking a shower.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Li Yihong told the court Tang was “skilled in camera placement” and he angled the camera so it would clearly capture the faces of the women and their private parts.

Tang also admitted to possessing more than 2,100 obscene films.

Four other members of the SG Horizon Club have already been sentenced to between six months and three years in jail.

Obscene

The offences came to light in 2016 after the Ministry of Education told police it had received information about obscene videos of schoolgirls in toilets or changing rooms.

These had apparently been taken with hidden cameras and were circulating on internet forums, as well as Google groups and the Volafile file-sharing website.

Police raided Tang’s home and seized hard drives, tablets, cameras, a laptop, an iPhone and three cameras that could be controlled remotely.

An analysis of the external hard drives revealed more than 4,900 sex-themed films, with more than 2,100 of them certified obscene by the Board of Film Censors.

The SG Horizon Club was set up by Ali V P Mohamed, 46, who was jailed for two years and fined £45,500 in January for his involvement in the site.
