With Black Lives Matter protests descending into looting and rioting across the United States, this pair decided to take no chances.
Mark and Patricia McClusky brandished firearms at a group of protesters who marched through their upscale neighbourhood in St Louis, Missouri, on their way to the home of Mayor Lyda Krewson.
Lawyer, Mark, stood on his Renaissance-style porch holding a semi-automatic weapon, while his wife, Patricia, pointed a pistol at the gathering.
The armed couple confronted the group of around 300 protesters after they breached a gate in the walled neighbourhood.
A video on Twitter showed Patricia point the firearm at passing protesters while shouting.
One protester wearing a t-shirt that read “Hands up, don’t shoot” then urges participants to relocate into the street in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Mayor Krewson’s home to demand her resignation after she released names and addresses of residents who suggested defunding the police department.
Speaking about the incident, Mark said: “We were threatened with our lives, threatened with our house being burned down, my office building being burned down, even our dog’s life.
“It was about as bad as it can get. I really thought we would be dead and the house would be burned.”
Unlike in Britain – where it is a crime punished with the utmost severity – defending your own home is not illegal in the United States.
