PRISON GIRL TOSSED OFF TEEN TEARAWAY

- By GRACE HOOPER news@sundaysport.co.uk

A PRISON boss in charge of young offenders wanked off a teen tearaway after he’d been freed from jail.

Authorities raided the home and workplace of Jennifer Butz-Tavares after underage sex allegations were made against her.

Butz-Tavares is director of the Monterey County Youth Centre, which houses post-incarcerated minors in Monterey, California.

The victim, who has not been identified, was being held at the lockup when he met Butz-Tavares, cops say.

He was released after his sentence but was rearrested after turning 18 and housed at the county jail.

Prison spokesman Todd Keating said staff reported alleged “inappropriate communications” between Butz-Tavares and the teen.

It appeared there may have been a policy violation involving contacting former inmates at the youth centre, Keating said.

“The first accusations were simple policy violations. It could have been extremely explainable and it could have been an attempt to rehabilitate (the youth),” Keating said.

Keating asked Sheriff Steve Bernal to instruct officers to conduct an internal investigation into the contact between the pair.

That led to allegations of “masturbation to completion”.

Deputies now claim that Butz-Tavares had “inappropriate sexual contact” with the victim while he was a minor.

The relationship continued after the victim was released from custody and after he became an adult.

Butz-Tavares was arrested and faces charges of annoying or molesting a child, sexual battery, assault under the colour of authority, dissuading a victim from reporting a crime and communicating with a minor for sexual purposes.

Keating immediately placed Butz-Tavares on paid administrative leave.

He added: “We take our role to keep our kids safe and sound serious.

“If true, it’s a big blow to the department and the community.”
