SICKO CHOPS HIS GRANNY’S HEAD OFF
A MANIAC who killed and decapitated his own GRAN – then dumped her head on the back lawn – has withdrawn an insanity plea.
Kenny McBride, 46, will now face a jury on one count each of murder and mutilation of a dead body.
McBride, of Temperance, Michigan, said when he appeared before Monroe County Jail via Zoom: “I never claimed I wanted an insanity defence. I want an acquittal. I’ve wanted that since day one.”
McBride is charged in the slaying of his grandmother Cecelia Gibson, 79, who was found beaten and decapitated in the home she shared with McBride and his father.
Trauma
McBride was arrested and charged after investigators were called to a “medical emergency” at their Bedford Township home last February.
His gran’s headless body was found in the living room. Her head was found in the backyard, police said.
An autopsy showed Mrs Gibson died of blunt force trauma to her head, officials said.
McBride was sent to the state’s Centre for Forensic Psychiatry for a mental competency evaluation, which later determined he was fit to stand trial.
In November, the centre sent a letter to the court stating it was unable to evaluate McBride for criminal responsibility – which is required if pursuing an insanity defence – as he would not participate in interviews with doctors.
At his January 8 hearing via Zoom, McBride maintained his innocence, stating the murder didn’t happen.
He is set for a pretrial hearing on April 9, followed by jury trial on April 19, COVID-19 restrictions permitting.
