The Woods Caravan Park, Clackmannanshire

-

Sometimes it’s the little things that stick in your mind when you visit a campsite. The Woods is a beautiful site that boasts superb facilities and a stunning location. It’s tranquil, has amazing scenic views and is handily placed to visit attractions in Stirling and beyond.

But what was it that I remembered most about my visit here? Well, strangely, it was the fact that it had TVs in the cosy laundry room, and immaculate shower blocks! Now that might sound like an unusual thing to leave an impression (it is!), but it’s details like that which really make a campsite stand out from the crowd. You know if the site management is taking the time to consider the needs of guests as they wash their smalls, then they will be on top of the big stuff, too.

And that’s exactly the impression you get from the moment you arrive at The Woods. It’s well-kept, friendly and a haven of peace and quiet, even when it’s busy. Which it usually is.

This site is bang in the centre of

Scotland, close to the village of Alva and a short drive (or bus trip) from Stirling – home of the Wallace Monument and one of Scotland’s most historic cities. It’s easy to reach from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth and it’s handy as a stopover on your way to or from the Highlands.

The 14-acre site has 112 pitches, of which 95 are large hardstandings, with 21 fully serviced pitches, two mobility fully serviced and nine grass pitches. Every pitch has a 16A electric hook-up.

Many of the pitches enjoy breathtaking views over the Ochil Hills, and the site is popular among hillwalkers. Guided walks can be taken at the nearby Gartmorn Dam Country Park and Nature Reserve. Shops and restaurants are on offer locally, but the Woodsman Bar & Restaurant comes with an excellent reputation.
