In a flap about flaps

-

Taking delivery of my new Globecar campervan based on a Peugeot Boxer 2.2 BlueHDi 165hp in October, I have become somewhat frustrated with Peugeot UK (Stellantis).

I ordered new front and rear mudflaps but was advised by the supplying agent that they were not currently available from Peugeot and they would advise me when they were so they could then fit them for me. The front ones at least are needed to stop the electric step getting dirty.

After a couple of months I had heard nothing and enquiries in early January confirmed they were still not available, so I decided to see if I could obtain them myself.

I looked everywhere online – Peugeot agents, OEM suppliers, eBay, etc, and they were out of stock everywhere. Some suppliers permitted me to register so I could be informed when they were available, which I did.

I then also contacted Peugeot Customer Service and was surprised to be advised that they were not available due to a problem with the supplier, which seems to have existed since early summer 2023. It could not advise me when these parts would be available via its agents.

I then asked if it could advise me of any vehicle manufacturer of suitable alternatives and was told Fiat parts “might fit” (it’s a trial and error approach). Most websites that provide similar parts advise these cannot be fitted where the plastic wheelarch trim is fitted, which my new campervan does have.

I have been left simply hoping the supply problem is sorted sometime soon – Peugeot has clearly not notified its agents of the cause or likely duration for the supply problem as none I contacted knew when asked. I have been unable to find other alternatives that will fit. Do any readers have any suggestions?

As a result of the above I am left wondering what problems I may encounter in future should I need any parts to maintain my Peugeot Boxer.

Having initially been delighted with the driving experience compared to my old Fiat Ducato-based motorhome, I am left wondering what the future ownership experience holds for me as Peugeot UK has not provided a solution for me here.

Other campervan owners may be interested in this experience when they look for a replacement campervan or may even be able to provide suggestions to help me.

I have heard of some campervan owners asking for the transfer of the mudflaps from their old Peugeot Boxer campervan to their new one!
