Camping Holländischer Hof, Rhineland-Palatinate
A spectacular drive along the Moselle Valley brings you to Camping Holländischer Hof, right on the riverbank. Entry is easy and reception is welcoming, friendly and efficient.
You can choose your pitch, though only timing and luck will get a riverside berth. Nonetheless, others are of reasonable size, clearly marked and partially shaded.
Sanitation facilities are modern and have a very high standard of cleanliness and comfort. There is only one such building, however; it’s close to the entrance and therefore some distance from numerous pitches on this long, thin site. Showers are charged at €1 (£0.89) per five minutes; electric hook-up is metered. Fresh water pick-up and grey water disposal is convenient and satisfactory.
There is a very well-stocked shop that also sells the village’s own Moselle wines. These are reasonably priced and very pleasant. Breakfast bread orders are taken daily. There is an Italian restaurant attached, which appeared popular with campers.
There’s also an entertaining gaggle of (peaceful) geese and some ducks that wander around between the pitches. On the river a steady stream of kayaks, pleasure craft and cruisers pass to provide entertainment.
The site is in the heart of the Moselle’s most picturesque course.
The river’s loops and twists are accentuated by the high hillsides that are often close to the riverbank.
There is a series of dedicated, flat cycle paths direct from the site in both directions, which follow the riverbank. Cycling these is a delight, with plenty of activity to watch on the river as well as the steep hills covered in vines and woodland on either side.
I cycled to Cochem, passing attractive small riverside villages. In summer there are bars, cafés and restaurants along the way, and some of the wine producers set up stalls offering tastings.

Holländischer Hof is a well-maintained site that benefits from being in the middle a famously attractive and accessible area.
