You’d think that three platform faces, a trainshed and an array of storage sidings of Lakeside station would serve a huge settlement. in fact, the station site was probably bigger than the hamlet itself. the clue as to what attracted the Furness Railway to Lakeside was in the name - the waters of Windermere. the Furness Railway built what was a miniature main line terminus, but set in one of the most beautiful places in Britain. What’s left? the Lakeside & haverthwaite Railway maintains services into Lakeside, but most of the original features have gone. Where can I find out more? www.lakesiderailway.co.uk n thanks to Alan Middleton at the Furness Railway trust.
