FARISH ANNOUNCES N-GAUGING LINE-UP
Brand promises new models, new tooling and the end of tender-driven models, writes BEN ANDO.
The Graham Farish brand has not been forgotten, and 2017’s range includes two all-new locomotives, a new range of coaches, a new wagon… and a modified diesel! The all-new ‘8F’ replaces the ex-poole model. Sure to delight ‘N’ gauge modellers, it finally gives this seminal LMS design the recognition it deserves. It will feature a Next18 DCC decoder socket, a detailed cab interior and NEM couplers. To complement the promised ‘Birdcage’ stock comes the South Eastern & Chatham Railway ‘C’ 0‑6‑0. These were built from 1900 and lasted until 1966, with one example preserved. Despite the model’s relatively
small size, Bachmann says that tender drives are a thing of the past and this model will feature a small coreless motor in the body/boiler. A new Class 31 appeared in April 2015, but it only depicted the popular Brush design in original condition. Now, Bachmann is to produce the locomotives as modified in the 1980s with removed bufferbeam cowling, bodyside waist strip and the addition (on some) of Electric Train Supply equipment. Midland, Southern and Western modellers have benefitted from new coaches recently; now it’s the turn of the Eastern Region. Bachmann is already working on new Thompson stock for ‘OO’ and is to produce four types in ‘N’ - Corridor First, Corridor Third, Corridor Composite and Corridor Brake. Finally, ‘N’ gauge freight enthusiasts are not forgotten with newly tooled versions of the 100t TEA bogie tankers. This tanker has been in the Farish range for many years, but the older model does not compare well with modern releases. The model is based on wagons constructed during the 1960s and 1970s. And finally, the forthcoming Class 40 will be offered with split headcode boxes… and sound.
