Hornby unveiled its new tooling for 2017/18 at Warley 2016, but there was still plenty left to maintain the excitement of its traditional Christmas/new Year announcement. Many favourites return to the catalogue, such as the Drummond ‘M7’, Bulleid ‘Q1’, LMS ‘Royal Scot’ and ‘8F’, while popular newcomers to the range - the ‘Q6’, ‘B12/3’ and Class 71 - are available with new running numbers/colour schemes. Star billing in the modern image range arguably goes to the HST, which appears in Great Western Railway’s dark green, along with complementary Mk 3 coaches. The biggest surprise, however, is the expansion of the Railroad range with locomotives that are now offered as more refined models by other manufacturers. With a new ‘14XX’ (Hatton’s/djmodels), Class 73 (Dapol) and Class 90 (Bachmann) on sale or pending, the ex-airfix, Lima and 1980s Hornby tooling now join the Railroad range.
