NEW TOOLS FROM PROSES

-

Turkish modelling accessory specialist Proses has released a number of new tools that aim to make track laying and wiring easier. One particular innovation is a pair of adjustable clamps for retaining flexible track at a desired radius. Three wing nuts retain the clamp heads that slot perfectly onto ‘OO/HO’ track, the central clamp then being slid in its slot to form a curve in either direction. Each 170mm long clamp is rendered in tough, clear acrylic and the rails are securely held while track pins are inserted or, if preferred, while the glue sets. Clamps for other track gauges are also available. The ballasting stage is also catered for by a push-along ballast spreader, sporting a set of ‘HO/OO’ wheels. The height of the unit above the rails is easily adjusted with a locking lever and another lever controls the flow of scatter material. In use, the tool is simple to operate (a coupling is provided at one end for hauling behind a locomotive!) and the ballast was deposited neatly between the rails and on either side. By setting the tool just above rail height and with careful control of the flow, there’s virtually no excess ballast to brush away before applying adhesive. Some physical intervention is needed when pointwork is encountered, but otherwise this has proved to be an effective, labour-saving device. To complete the trio, a handy pocket-sized track voltage tester checks whether the rails are receiving power from the controller. Simply press the two metal prongs against the rail heads and an array of lights reveal how much electricity is being conducted. The red bulb signifies 5-9V, yellow 9-12V and green 12V+. If no bulbs are lit, the tester is registering less than 5V. This particular unit is designed for use on ‘N’, ‘TT’ and ‘HO/OO’ track and is compatible with DC and DCC systems. A great help when connecting power feeds and isolation sections or when diagnosing faults. (GD)
