Model landscapes

These images were sent in by Alan’s wife, Janet, and depict two great layouts. The first is called ‘Roshven’, as Janet explains: “It was once an alternative site to the rail terminus at Mallaig. It’s based on a typical West Highland Line station, with a fishing pontoon, and smoke houses, modelled on those at Grimsby.” The second is based on a fictional Welsh colliery town, complete with a ruined castle (inspired by Criccieth Castle, North Wales). “Alan’s forte is landscape,” says Janet. “He wouldn’t describe his creations as model railways, but rather models of landscapes with trains.” A fitting description indeed.

Below: The fine micro layout ‘Roshven’ is based on an unidentified West Highland Line station. The hand-painted backscene is particularly impressive, and portrays the wildly undulating Highland landscape perfectly.

?? ?? Above: Alan’s larger Welsh colliery town layout, which has been weathered with a suitably grimy effect.
