George’s suggested upgrade: PH Designs produce a full detail upgrade kit, including a cosmetic resin pantograph for the basic Hornby model. Bachmann is due to release a superior version.

Ben’s suggested upgrade: Farish’s Poole-era tooling can be improved with PH Designs’ detailing kit (www.phd-design-etchings.co.uk). Again, the Dapol replacement pantographs will improve the roof, and really keen modellers might wish to file down the cab roof, which has an overly pronounced lip above the windscreen.
