First look at Rails Exclusive’s LNER dynamometer car, and Dapol unveils its new brakevan.
Rails Exclusive is a new brand that Rails of Sheffield launched in fine style on April 13 - inside the National Railway Museum’s LNER Dynamometer Car No. 905202. The location was particularly apt as the first product in this new range of high-quality, collectable ‘OO’ gauge ready-to-run models will be the Dynamometer Car itself. The car was built by the North Eastern Railway in 1906 to test locomotive performance and, as LNER No. 23591, recorded ‘A4’ Mallard’s recordbreaking run on July 3 1938. With its post-1946 number 905202, the car was used in the 1948 Locomotive Exchanges and was retired in 1954. Rapido Trains is to produce the model, which is to feature full interior and underframe detail, including depictions of the recording equipment and the additional speed recording wheel between the bogies. It will be produced in both 1938 and 1948 conditions.
