TRACK AND BALLAST

I normally favour finescale track, which makes a big visual difference to a layout. However, because this is a quick and economical project, I reused some Peco Streamline Code 100. The quickest way to improve Code 100 is to weather it by giving the whole thing a blast with Humbrol acrylic aerosol. It takes two minutes, is really effective, and easy to remove from the rail heads. I accept that foam ballast underlay is unrealistic, but I feel justified in this case as I’ll probably reuse the baseboard again in the future. With that in mind, it’s easier to remove the foam than it is to chip away at glued ballast grains.
