Bufferstop
All sidings need some form of protection to prevent railway vehicles from rolling off the end. The most common are bufferstops, triangular-shaped devices often made from curved and bent rails, although a sleeper chained to the rails is commonly used as a low-budget alternative. Other options include stockades made from sleepers, infilled with earth and rubble. Bufferstops are seen all over the railway network and are a finishing touch to all sidings. There is a huge range of suitable products, in all scales. Again, the nature of the project meant that I went with the simplest option - Peco’s SL-40 rail-built bufferstop. If I’d had more time, I’d have gone with something a little more elaborate, perhaps featuring an illuminated stop light, such as those available from DCC Supplies, Train-tech and others.
