QUAY TECHNIQUES
The dockside is made from embossed stonework plastic card. Balsa wood stakes have been glued in between at regular intervals and then filed to appear battered and worn. The water is made from multiple coats of PVA glue, following an unsuccessful attempt at using a specialist modelling product. “I didn’t seal the area properly,” says James. “My garage floor now looks like it’s covered in water!” James used 35 coats of PVA glue, and brushed coloured streaks onto the cured surface after every five coats. This built up variations in tone for a realistic representation of murky dockside water.
