Llandudno Junction

I used to accompany photographer Martyn Barnwell on layout shoots. Chris Evans’ layout occupied a complete room, including alcoves which had once been a built-in wardrobe. I loved the way so much detail had been worked into the space, allowing the main room space to house the junction station, locomotive depot and even, if I recall correctly, the Britannia tubular bridge. It helped, too, that Chris made good use of old Hornby-dublo, including the ‘short’ Mk 1 coaches. These allowed him to run longer trains. I grew up with those coaches so their shortness never bothered me. Chris Evans felt the same.
