Dave and I have known each other for more years than we both care to remember. Our relationship blossomed when I worked for Network Southeast’s Public Affairs Department and Dave edited Model Railways Magazine. My MD, Chris Green, noticed an issue of MRM on my desk with Dave’s ‘O’ gauge Class 86 86401 in full NSE livery on the cover. Before long I was commissioning presentation models for NSE from Dave, and he stopped being an editor and became a full-time model maker. I’ve seen Dave’s layout grow over the last 20 years. It’s always fun to watch and there is always something new to see. If ever a layout encompassed the railways of the last 50 years, then this is it. Being ‘O’ gauge makes it even more of an achievement.
