Model Rail (UK)

1

Having downloaded and printed out the kit, take note of the instructions and fix the paper onto the recommended thickness of card. Photo Mount aerosol adhesive offers a quick and secure bond – but wear a mask.

2

Cutting out the individual window apertures is a time-consuming business and the use of a fresh scalpel blade is recommended to keep the edges clean. Take your time with this stage to ensure the openings are neat and square.

4

The walls and door panels have been fixed to a sheet of clear acetate (again using the Photo Mount) and the modular nature of the kit can be appreciated by how the various sections can be laid out to suit any requirements.

3

Touching in the white edges of the paper with the appropriate colour adds greater realism to the finished model. Felt tip pens are ideal, if you can find a close match for the shades. Acrylic paint can also be employed, using a fine brush.

5

Having laminated the walls and corner sections, the main shell of the building can be erected. Check the corner angles with setsquares while the glue dries. Deluxe Materials’ Roket Card Glue offers strong bonds and fast curing times.

6

The roof layers can be cut to the required size, laminated and glued in position. The optional awning is assembled in a similar way. When fitting to the walls, check that it’s square and true. Make support columns out of plastic strip.

7

Lay the building onto the reverse of the roof covering sheet and trace out the dimensions carefully before cutting and gluing the overlay into position. The awning fascia boards can then be added.

8

Internal wall details are provided, including a ticket office window and a variety of doors and panels. The addition of the interior walls also adds strength to the overall structure. Again, use a setsquare to check alignments.

9

The kit presents a pleasing amount of surface relief, created by the addition of several layers, including the individual concrete cladding panels to the exterior. Use the printed lines to position the panels accurately.

10

A choice of roof fittings is provided, including an array of skylights and a raised vent structure. Place these in appropriate areas – the vent above a plant room and the skylights above the waiting room, for instance.

11

The CLASP kit provides an array of signs and posters, but Scalescenes also offer packs of editable signage so you can create your own station names. See www.scalescenes.com for full details.

12

The tiled floor panel can be cut to the required size and fixed to the groundwork before the building is installed. Now’s the time to add benches, passengers, staff and other paraphernalia before ‘planting’ the building.
