1

The components for the two Wills canopies, which would give a combined covered area of 180mm by 60mm.

2

The columns come in two halves. Remove them from the sprue with a pair of cutters and glue them together with Humbrol Liquid Poly.

3

Use a fine sanding stick to smooth the joints on the two halves of the supporting legs. Preparation such as this only takes a few seconds but pays dividends.

4

Follow the same procedure with the roof pieces. Use a small sanding stick to remove a little excess plastic that was left over once the pieces had been removed from the sprue.

5

Joining the two canopy roof sections required a little ingenuity. I cut a chunky piece of sprue and glued it to one end…

6 …but the valancing was missing on one of the canopy kits. I made a new valance from card, gluing it in place with Scenic Glue. If it were visible, I’d have used pinking shears to make the jagged edge.

7

The underside of the roof, showing the additional supporting cross members I added to take the tops of the supporting pillars.

8

After painting the columns white I wanted to highlight the rings on the legs, so I wound masking tape around them before painting the rings with black acrylic paint.

9

The waiting room comes moulded in four colours. Assembly is straightforward using a pair of sprue cutters, a sanding stick and some poly cement.

10

The door and window frames have these distinctive arches. To make my shelter more generic, I removed them.

11

Greys, off-whites and dark blues tend to be fairly common station colours today. I painted the walls light grey, the columns and doors white and the door and window frames black.

12

Placing the waiting shelter enabled me to judge where the columns should go. Woodland Scenics’ Scenic Glue is ideal for sticking the columns to the platform surface.

13

With the canopy secured to the columns, I painted the roof section with Tamiya Flat Neutral Grey and the valances in the same grey as the waiting room walls.

14

The holes in the valance are small and are easily clogged with paint. I opened the holes with a small nail, but a cocktail stick or pin would do just as well.
