MSA Formula Rookie champion Enaam Ahmed will switch to BRDC Formula 4 this season with Douglas Motorsport.

The 16-year-old former junior world karting champion finished eighth in the MSA Formula standings with Arden in his maiden year of car racing.

He will now join Douglas in BRDC F4 and his management is also trying to arrange a deal for him to race in other FIA F4 championships after he won Koiranen GP’S Junior Winter Challenge last December.

“I have had a couple of tests with different teams, and I really like the way Wayne [Douglas] and his team operate,” said Ahmed. “I’m so pleased to have finally signed a deal with such a great team.

“The new BRDC F4 is awesome. It’s so fast and has more aero than other existing F4 cars, and it seems to suit my driving style more.

“We have not done much, but the limited running we have done, we have been straight on the pace.”

Douglas Motorsport boss Wayne Douglas added: “We’re delighted to have him, he’s a really good signing for us.

“Several bigger teams have tried to sign him, so it’s a bit of giant-killing that we’ve got him. He’s now the third world karting champion we’ve run after Matty Graham and Charlie Eastwood.

“He was fast at Silverstone last week and we will be testing at least once a week now until the season starts.”

Ahmed will partner Australian Thomas Randle in Douglas’s two-car line-up and Douglas is looking forward to the season ahead.

“We’ve got two good pedallers and it should be good,” he added. “We’ve won races with this car and know how to set it up.”
