The news of the loss of Formula 1 from free-to-air TV from 2019 onwards has split opinion among the sport’s fans.

We ran a poll over our @Mnewsracing Twitter account, which garnered 255 responses. Of the feedback, more than half of fans suggested they would stop watching F1 altogether if free live coverage of races ceased in the UK.

The numbers tally up with fears for the future of the sport raised by the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association ( see page four), which released its statement criticising F1’s business decisions within hours of Sky Sports’ announcement.
