John Marshall won the DCC Stages Rally at Ingliston when he came from behind to snatch victory from Gary Adam by seven seconds on the final stage. Alistair Inglis just lost out on the runner-up position after tying with Adam.

In damp, greasy conditions, Adam got off to the best start of the day in his Ford Escort Mk2, with Marshall’s Subaru Impreza fastest on the second test. Adam fought back on the third, with Bruce Edwards snatching second fastest in the Darrian, equalling Nigel Feeney’s time in his Impreza.

Inglis was another to join in the close-fought battle with his Lotus Exige and the five of them fought tooth and nail all day until Feeney dropped out of the lead with fuel feed problems in the penultimate test.

Going into the final stage, Adam’s two-second advantage was looking ecidedly shakey as the grey skies darkened and the rain fell heavier. Over the final rain-soaked test, Marshall snatched victory with a time nine seconds quicker. Inglis almost caught Adam and had to settle for third place after the tie decider had to be applied.

Edwards was fourth, but it was young Sean Robson who had the drive of the day, taking fifth place in his Citroen C2 R2 Max ahead of the Honda-engined Escort Mk2 of Hamish Kinloch.
