Ti­ago Mon­teiro won the open­ing World Tour­ing Car Cham­pi­onship race at the Slo­vakia Ring thanks to a lat­er­ace move on Me­hdi Ben­nani. Mon­teiro’s Honda team-mate Rob Huff com­pleted the podium, while reign­ing cham­pion Jose Maria Lopez could only man­age fifth in his Citroen. How­ever he bounced back to take a dra­matic win in race two. Lada’s Nicky Cats­burg led for much of the race but Lopez and Mon­teiro reeled him in and the Ar­gen­tinian pounced on the penul­ti­mate lap, with Mon­teiro also get­ting ahead on the fi­nal tour. Huff ended the race in the gravel, hav­ing run fifth… Si­mon Pa­ge­naud claimed a con­tro­ver­sial Indycar win at Long Beach last week­end, as he nar­rowly beat Scott Dixon. Pa­ge­naud ap­peared to cut part of the yel­low line as he ex­ited the pits and tried to fend off Dixon but race of­fi­cials only gave him a warn­ing. Pa­ge­naud’s team-mate, and the pole­sit­ter, He­lio Cas­tron­eves was third af­ter be­ing jumped in the stops… Two sons of for­mer For­mula 1 driv­ers won the For­mula V8 3.5 races at Aragon last week­end. Louis Dele­traz won the opener for Fortec af­ter he was gifted the lead when pole­man Egor Orudzhev ran wide on the open­ing lap. Ar­den’s Aure­lien Pa­nis won race two af­ter mak­ing a bet­ter get­away than pole­sit­ter Tom Dill­mann. Mean­while, Strakka has sus­pended its pro­gramme in the se­ries af­ter fail­ing to sign any driv­ers with suf­fi­cient bud­get… Brit Nick Yel­loly will switch from sin­gle-seaters to com­pete in the Ger­man Porsche Car­rera Cup this year. The Force In­dia sim­u­la­tor driver con­tested the ma­jor­ity of the GP2 sea­son in 2015… Carl Ed­wards dom­i­nated an in­ci­dent-filled NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bris­tol Mo­tor Speed­way last week­end.
