Tiago Monteiro won the opening World Touring Car Championsh­ip race at the Slovakia Ring thanks to a laterace move on Mehdi Bennani. Monteiro’s Honda team-mate Rob Huff completed the podium, while reigning champion Jose Maria Lopez could only manage fifth in his Citroen. However he bounced back to take a dramatic win in race two. Lada’s Nicky Catsburg led for much of the race but Lopez and Monteiro reeled him in and the Argentinia­n pounced on the penultimat­e lap, with Monteiro also getting ahead on the final tour. Huff ended the race in the gravel, having run fifth… Simon Pagenaud claimed a controvers­ial Indycar win at Long Beach last weekend, as he narrowly beat Scott Dixon. Pagenaud appeared to cut part of the yellow line as he exited the pits and tried to fend off Dixon but race officials only gave him a warning. Pagenaud’s team-mate, and the polesitter, Helio Castroneve­s was third after being jumped in the stops… Two sons of former Formula 1 drivers won the Formula V8 3.5 races at Aragon last weekend. Louis Deletraz won the opener for Fortec after he was gifted the lead when poleman Egor Orudzhev ran wide on the opening lap. Arden’s Aurelien Panis won race two after making a better getaway than polesitter Tom Dillmann. Meanwhile, Strakka has suspended its programme in the series after failing to sign any drivers with sufficient budget… Brit Nick Yelloly will switch from single-seaters to compete in the German Porsche Carrera Cup this year. The Force India simulator driver contested the majority of the GP2 season in 2015… Carl Edwards dominated an incident-filled NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway last weekend. Dale Earnhardt Jr finished second despite a battery issue dropping him two laps down at the start but he was aided by 15 caution periods during the race...
