FIA F3 racer Hyman makes BRDC series bow
FIA European F3 regular Raoul Hyman made his debut in the remodelled BRDC Formula 3 Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend.
Hyman joined the HHC Motorsport team for the tripleheader around the Brands GP loop. The 19-year-old, who is racing for Carlin for his second term in European F3 this year, took a best finish of seventh.
“I got the call from Charlie [Kemp, HHC boss] saying there was a spare car and decided it would be fun,” said Hyman. “The car is the closest comparison to a true F3 car I’ve driven. It has good downforce so you can still lean it in to a corner on the throttle and know it will grip, but it can’t do it to the extent an F3 car can.
“Testing on Friday was a washout so the first time I’d driven on the dry Pirelli tyres was qualifying, which made it interesting. At the moment this was a one-off.”
