Ryan motivated by prize in ITRC juniors

Irish Tarmac Championship Junior leader Justin Ryan believes a chance to drive a Ford Fiesta R2 at M-sport is a prize all junior drivers should target.

Ryan was taken by surprise on the first round of the championship in Galway where he scored maximum points, and the 25-year-old cemented his championship lead with a second place in West Cork on his first visit to the rally in his Honda Civic, which is run by a small crew headed by his father, John.

“For the last couple of years I’ve been thinking about doing a championship,” said Ryan. “I couldn’t not do the championship after getting a top score on the first round. I didn’t even think we’d be competitive in West Cork and we took second. We’re looking at the championship rather than trying to win outright.”

Ryan will head to Killarney in two weeks for the next round of the series in hope of extending his championship lead.
