Ypres step too soon

- David Evans

This kind of question couldn’t actually have come at a worse possible time for me. Still reeling at our exit from Europe, I find I’m treading the same path as BJ and that awful Westminster seat-less Farage chap.

When I first heard about the British Rally Championship going to Ypres, I had my misgivings. As this first season back unfolds I’m ever more certain there should be Brcexit from Europe before we even get there.

Ypres is a great, great rally and genuinely one of Europe’s best. But I don’t understand the need to ship our boys over there when we have equally brilliant rallies on equally epic roads within the four corners of this green and pleasant land.

I firmly believe as we rebuild the British Rally Championship, we need to keep it British. And, yes, I’m very well aware of how close Ypres is to the south coast of Britain and, probably how much cheaper it is to get there than, for example, the Isle of Man.

The British Rally Championship is building above and beyond what it’s been for a very long time. Don’t complicate that. And don’t put the BRC into the ERC’S shadow for a second rally in the season, providing the Circuit of Ireland remains a round of both in 2017.
