Aston Martin unveils Newey-designed car
Aston Martin unveiled its new hypercar, designed in coordination with Red Bull Racing, last week and predicts it will be capable of matching LMP1 performance.
The AM-RB001 has been penned by F1 aero guru Adrian Newey and Marek Reichman and uses F1-inspired aerodynamics. The carbon chassis will be fitted with a V12 engine and a bespoke transmission developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies. The makers insist the car will achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1 with about 900-1000bhp. It will have an energy recovery system of some kind, most likely a kinetic ERS braking system.
Newey said: “The AM-RB 001 should be a road car that’s capable of performance on track. It’s to be a car of two characters. The technology that allows it to be docile and comfortable.”
Between 99 and 150 cars will be built for 2018, with a further 25 for track use only. It will cost between £2-3 million.
