HOT ROD RULEBOOK UNDER REVIEW HAL RIDGE
MN’S RALLYCROSS REPORTER “The Hansen name certainly brings pressure”
National Hot Rod boss Deane Wood is conducting a review of regulations in the category with the aim of cutting costs, and he is asking drivers for their input.
He recently issued a statement saying that several areas of the spaceframed cars will be looked at in an attempt to make the category more affordable for competitors and newcomers.
Wood, whose Spedeworth Motorsport operation heads up National Hot Rods, said: “We will be looking at a number of issues – things like the shock absorbers and the diffusers. There could even be an argument to introduce a spec engine to limit the costs of developments in that area too.
“At the moment, these are only ideas and I am happy to talk to anyone to forge a way forward. This is not going to suddenly make cars obsolete – we would be mad to do that, but we are looking at the future.
“We want to encourage people to take part in the category and this is a good way of doing that.
“There are still some problems with damage in the races too, but we are working hard to sort that out to a large degree with good policing of the driving standards. Now we are looking at the cars as well.”
