Renault will also ramp up its investment plan in F1 in an effort to accelerate its return to the front of the grid. Renault has languished toward the rear of the field since its full factory return this season. Six months into the project, the French brand is pushing its timescales ahead instead of sticking to its original plan of winning championsh­ips by 2020. “We are bringing forward our plans and increasing the total package,” said Abiteboul. “We had put together a five-year plan, with an investment package, but a couple of weeks ago we had approval to increase that package and bring it forward. What we want is to make a difference as quickly as possible.”
