Adamo dismisses rumours of i20 R5 zero car at Ulster

-

Hyundai R5 chief Andrea Adamo has moved to quash any rumours of the i20 appearing in August’s Ulster Rally, with the car not expected out until after its homologation in September.

When asked if running as zero car on the Ulster was a possibility, Adamo said: “Absolutely not. No. It was never even planned.”

The machine ran as zero on the Ypres Rally, where sources within the event told MN that the car would have set fastest times on multiple stages.

After the homologation, one possible location for the debut of the car in competition could be Wales Rally GB in October.

However, Adamo admitted that no events have been confirmed at this stage.

“Yes, I’d like to be present this year with one car managed by us on some nice events that have some commercial importance. Which one, I don’t know,” he added. “What we are planning to do after the homologation is to participate with customers with works presence to show the car somewhere. I won’t say an event for the sake of it as that’s not how I approach things.”

Adamo added that the outfit has already sold nine of the cars despite the car not yet being homologated.
