BOGIE TO MAKE MULL DEBUT JACK BENYON
NATIONAL RALLYING EDITOR “Bogey times need to be looked at closely”
David Bogie will enter the Mull Rally for the first time in October.
The renowned island event filled its entry in less than 15 minutes after they opened last week.
Five-time Scottish champion Bogie has never competed on the prestigious event but, after winning the National category on the Donegal Rally, he will again wheel out his Ford Escort Mk2 on asphalt.
“I’ve been getting stick about not going to Mull for a long time, I’ve always chosen Donegal as my one non-championship event to go and do,” said Bogie. “This year we did Donegal and managed to win and the car is in one piece so I thought we might as well give it a go.”
Bogie says the outing is for fun after the enjoyment experienced in Ireland.
Bogie said: “I really liked Donegal and that encouraged us to take the Escort out again. With [Irish benchmark] Frank Kelly going along it’s a chance to compete with him head to head.
“It’s a quick pace at the front on Mull. I’ve been across and spectated. Callum Duffy is very much on the pace. If I was taking it seriously I’d take the Skoda Fabia R5 that I use in the British Rally Championship, but we’re going out for the fun.”
Bogie will be joined by Kevin Rae, who’s recently taken a step back from the duo’s British championship campaign due to work commitments.
John Maccrone will also compete, returning to the event where his co-driver Andi Mort died last year. Toyota co-driver Dan Barritt will also appear, partnering Paul Mackinnon.
